Single Basketweave Stitch

An ultra-textured stitch using only knits and purls to give the illusion of a woven pattern.

This is the “single” variation of the basketweave stitch, meaning the knit columns are only one stitch wide, making it the finest basketweave variation.

Pros of single basketweave stitch:

  • It provides a ton of texture
  • Easy enough to knit, just knits and purls
  • Lays mostly flat, but a border is recommended for cleanliness

Cons of single basketweave stitch:

  • This 6-row repeat may be difficult for beginners to knit by sight or memory. You might need to keep the chart on hand.
  • It can look messy if you have uneven tension between your knits and purls. Is your 1×1 ribbing loose despite using the proper needle size? If so, you might need a little more practice before tackling the single basketweave stitch.

Abbreviations:

  • k: knit
  • p: purl
