Close up of the double seed knitting stitch Knit by KnitQ

Double Seed Stitch

Also known as Irish Moss Stitch, the double seed stitch is simple knit-purl pattern that adds tons of texture (without upping the skill level).

This stitch lays flat. It doesn’t curl vertically or horizontally, making it a great border or standalone stitch.

Pros of Double Seed:

  • Lays flat
  • Reversible
  • Adds a subtle texture to your knitting projects

Cons of Double Seed:

  • Relatively slow to knit (similar to ribbing)
  • Beginners may struggle to differentiate between the knit and purl stitches
